College Admissions Early Decision ALERT!!
INCREASE in Early Decision (“ED”) Applications for the Class of 2025
An unprecedented uptick in ED Applications were submitted for the Class of 2025. Despite the lack of predictability in every-day life due to COVID-19, high school seniors apparently yearned for stability and eagerly applied ED to their top choice college.
Admissions offices throughout the country did not know the extent to which COVID would impact applications for the class of 2025. Admissions welcomed this unexpected surge in ED applications.
The students who knew how to play the Admissions Game maximized their odds for acceptance by applying ED.
ED Game Changer: Standardized Test Optional Requirement
Fair to say that for this application cycle 2020–2021, the savvy student seized the opportunity not to submit test scores and apply ED.
And why would you submit a less than perfect test score if you were not required to do so? #DUH #NOBRAINER!
At all test optional colleges for this current application cycle, the Deans have stated there will be no negative inference by virtue of not submitting test scores.
PAY ATTENTION ALL APPLICANTS FOR THE CLASS OF 2025!
There is a moral to this article. Beware all students who did not apply ED this application cycle, or alternatively, applied ED and did not get accepted.
All students in this proverbial boat must finalize their Early Action (EA) and Regular Decision colleges they will apply to.
The uptick in ED applications this year evidence that high school seniors want to attend college in the fall 2021. At the time of this writing, the distribution of COVID vaccines has commenced throughout this country, and the hope is to vaccinate more than half of the U.S. population by the end of the summer. The end of this pandemic is now insight, which will further drive more students to apply to colleges this application cycle.
To ensure a more normalized fall 2021 on campus experience, I am confident that colleges will require all students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
In addition, applicants should note that top colleges will not be increasing the freshman class size for this application cycle 2020–2021. Yes, there will be more gap year freshman students from last year’s cycle 2019–2020 in the fall 2021 class. However, most colleges do not want to dilute the overall freshman experience, and therefore total invitations for admittance will remain same.
